We use a full terry chocolate orange to make these delicious savory cookies. These orange chocolate cookies are soft, thick and FUDGY!
These Orange Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies are super soft and chewing and filled with creamy, melted milk chocolate.
To make these chocolate orange cookies you will need orange chocolate. I used a milk chocolate orange, but you can use dark chocolate orange if you want.
I know that Chocolate Orange Cookies is not everyone’s thing, but I am one of those people who wait all year for the Chocolate Orange Cookies that appears in my stocking every Christmas. My brother has been telling my parents for years that he doesn’t like them, but they keep one in their stocking so I usually end up with two. She is my maid.
I took my usual chocolate chip cookie recipe and made some modifications to it to add to the orange flavor, but to make them a bit fuller. My usual recipe results in flat, crispy on the outside but on the inside, chocolate chip cookies. They are amazing, but I wanted to keep these guys nice and bloated, so I swapped the shortening for melted butter and increased the amount of flour a little. It worked like a charm, and they were not flattened at all. To melt the butter it is important to skip the step you want for these cookies.
How to get that gorgeous, chick cookie texture
The key to the soft, fluffy texture of these cookies is melting the butter and adding a little extra flour than your typical chocolate chip cookie recipe. This is not a normal step to making cookies, and in fact, many times recipes will ask you to make sure your butter is not too soft because it will spread the cookies in the oven. In this case, if you melt the butter, you get a cookie that is soft, chewy and almost cake-like in texture.
I have made without cooling the dough without issues, but as long as you have time, I recommend freezing your dough. The longer you flour before baking, the stronger the orange flavor in the cookies. You will also be less likely to have any spreading / melting problems while cooking. If you are in a pinch, remove the cookies and keep them in the freezer for about 10 minutes while the oven is hot before baking.
How to make Orange Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies
Cookies cannot be easy to make dough. You don’t even need a mixer for these people!
Combine butter and sugar – Mix melted butter, sugar and brown sugar together, and make sure it does not contain brown sugar.
Add dry ingredients – mix in flour, baking soda and salt, just until combined.
Add chocolate chips or chunks – Fold in chocolate until evenly distributed.
Chill the dough – Roll the cookies into large balls and place on a parchment lined sheet pan or tray. If you want to bake them immediately, keep them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes while you heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Taste of Orange The dough prevents the butter and cookies from spreading while cooking.
Bake – Bake for 9-10 minutes at 350 degrees F. Note that these cookies will look less when they come out of the oven, so do not bake for more than 10 minutes. The texture of these cookies is super soft and chewy, and if you let them turn brown they will burn outward.
How to get melted milk chocolate
When I originally made this recipe, I just used milk chocolate chips. Cookies still taste delicious, but chocolate chips contain plenty of other foods besides cacao. There are so many other weird ingredients out there that they don’t usually melt in the oven, which is not normal. My favorite way to make this is to use plain milk chocolate bars from Trader Joes, which are cut into chanas.
Add about half of the chocolate chunks to the cookies and reserve the other half. When the cookies are about half past the baking, take them out of the oven and press the remaining chocolate chunks into the top of the cookies where you want them, and then return them to the oven. This will result in a delicious, delicious chocolate pool that appears on top of the cookies.
If you store them at room temperature, the chocolate chocolates on top will all be soft and gooey. Store cookies in the fridge for up to 3 days, up to a week, or up to 3 weeks in the freezer.
Orange Milk Chocolate Orange Cookies
Ingredients of Chocolate Orange Cookies-
1 cup butter, melted
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 big oranges
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 (12 oz) bag large milk chocolate chips (or chocolate chunks)
Instruction of Chocolate Orange Cookies-
In a large bowl combine the melted butter, sugar and brown sugar together.
Add eggs, vanilla extracts and orange zest stirring until combined.
Add dry ingredients, mixing just until combined. Add a little more flour when the dough is more sticky.
Fold in half of the chocolate chips or chunks, adding the remainder later to the top of the cookies.
Line a sheet pan or tray with parchment paper. Roll or scoop the cookies dough into 24 large balls and place on a prepared tray. Cool in the freezer for 10 minutes when the oven is hot. If you have time, refrigerate for 1 hour or overnight. The more flour you knead, the stronger the orange flavor. Chilling also prevents the butter from melting and spreading in the oven.
When you are ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Place the scooped cookies dough on parchment-lined baking sheets, one to two inches apart. Bake at 350 degrees F for 9-10 minutes. After 5 minutes, pull the cookies out of the oven and press the remaining chocolate chicks or chips into the top of the cookies. Return to the oven for the remainder of the baking time. Cookies will appear below when you take them out. Do not bake for more than 10 minutes. They are super soft and not chewy when they get cold.
Allow them to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before slipping on a counter at the intersection to cool a cooling rack or the rest of the way.

Do you know why oranges are such a symbol of Christmas? There are a few reasons, and I’m going to talk about some of them in this post. I used to get an orange in my stocking every year at Christstime. The stocking that my parents packed for us in the 80s and 90s was quite different.
I remember stockings are not a big deal. And, I wouldn’t miss that our stockings are stockings, but more fashionable like a bag. I can’t remember the earlier years, but I can remember my stockings as Christmas-themed gift bags. Truth be told, I loved them, because Mom and Dad could fit in them more!
Do you pack a packing on CHRISTMAS EVE?
Every time I pack a stocking I always think that I will return to the stockings on Christmas morning. I stock with gift cards, chocolates, and small items such as DVDs or magazines, etc.
My childhood stocking never included gift cards or gifts of any kind. Our stockings were mostly food. I remember that I was a can of Pringles. Can always be a can of Cott or RC Cola. A toblerone bar was quite common, as well as an over-size candy cane.
Without fail, there will be a box of pretzels and Nielsen chocolate. There was always a bunch of grapes wrapped in aluminium foil. There is a hard Christmas candy, an apple, a banana, and always, a familiar orange right below that. I wish it had some chocolate orange cookies!
I think taking a character very seriously
The only food item I include in the stocking is some type of chocolate. I like to include a life-saving roll or even a package of breath mints. Oh, and I mentioned that they are all wrapped up. Every item, no matter how big or how small, no matter how cheap or how cheap, etc., every item of stocking is wrapped in Christmas paper.
It has become a tradition. And, once everyone is presented under the tree, we unpack one item at a time from our stocking. But, looking at my adult years, not even once have I packed an orange in a stocking.
So, why are oranges such a popular stocking item in the first place? Once, oranges were quite expensive and were spent only by the wealthy. In traditional Christmas fashion, it is the time of year of indulgence, so many rich people will buy and sell oranges for their children. A fresh orange on Christmas morning was a sign of prosperity and good things to attend.
Another reason is that oranges symbolize the season of giving. Since oranges divide so easily due to classes, orange was the perfect meal to share with friends and family. If only one orange could be purchased, everyone could get at least one or two volumes.
One particular reason stems years before an old fable. According to the story, a man had three daughters, from whom he could not marry because he was too poor to take a dowry. St. Nicholas landed three bags of gold under the chimney to land each of the girl’s stock. With sleeping bags, (orange shells) the three daughters were married and were always happy.
Chocolate Orange Cookies

Ingredients of Chocolate Orange Cookies Recipe-
1 cup butter, soft
1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar
1 teaspoon orange juice
1 Tbsp Orange Zest
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup dark chocolate
1/2 cup Candid Orange Peel
Instruction of Chocolate Orange Cookies Recipe-
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with a silicone liner or parchment paper. To cancel.
In a large bowl, use a hand-held mixer to cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add orange juice and orange zest. Beat in butter mixture.
Add flour and salt. Just kill until you join.
Add chocolate and candid orange rind. Beat until just mixed through.
Divide the cookie dough into three equal portions. Keep two parts to one side, and keep them covered because they cannot dry.
Lightly place the cookie dough in a ball and place it between two sheets of parchment paper. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough a little less than 1/2 inch thick.
Using a cookie cutter, cut the chopped flour into round flour. (I used a 1 1/2 inch round cookie cutter.) Transfer to a baking sheet, leaving 2 inches of space between each cookie. Roll out the remaining dough and roll until the dough is used. Repeat with the other two portions of the cookie dough.
Bake for 13 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire cooling rack to finish cooling.
Before serving, grate some orange zest on top and add a few curls of shaved dark chocolate.
