Have you ever heard of chocolate gravy. This is a popular Southern breakfast and I am sharing a gluten free chocolate gravy recipe today. Yes, this southern remedy can be made gluten free.

If you are from the south, you have probably heard of chocolate gravy, or at least. If you are from the northern or western part of the United States, you have missed a true southern treatment.

So, okay, who wouldn’t love a hot chocolate sauce type poured over a hot biscuit ?!

In fact, I haven’t had chocolate gravy recently and I can’t believe it would have taken me so long to try it. And my children, well they loved it.

I would say that although it is a special treat type of snack. It would be perfect for Christmas breakfast, especially if on my gluten free drop biscuits..In this fact, it may be just our Christmas breakfast for this year.
I think cornstarch can change the texture a little, but not much in this recipe.

I know some of you are looking at it as if your face is slightly puffed up … huh? This is one thing, and in the South where I am sadly its not a big deal.

This recipe was from my mother, who spent a large part of her life living in Mississippi and where most of my Southern themed cuisine comes from.

If you have never tried this item, then walk into your kitchen and make. Seriously!

Why it works:
It’s easy to whip up with only 6 pantry staple materials!
It takes less than 15 minutes until the chocolate is in heaven.
You can serve this chocolate gravy in many ways.
While this chocolate gravy recipe is normally served on hot flaky biscuits, it is really versatile and you can serve it with a variety of your favorite things.
I love simple recipes and this chocolate gravy is just that. With some ingredients you can have a batch in no time. And when I say gravy, what it is is not a chocolate sauce, or a ganache, it’s stuffed on grays right here.

How to make gravy  in Chocolate Gravy Recipe-

Add your flour, sugar and cocoa powder to the saucepan.
Add to the water and start kneading.
While you add, keep whispering. Milk.
Bring to a gentle boil and reduce heat and boil the gravy continuously until thickened.
Once thickened, combine your butter and vanilla.
Continue to boil for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
The texture is light and fluffy, if a liquid can also be described as such. Not sure on that one, but you can ask me to say that a liquid is light and fluffy! Mmm, is a word that comes to mind when making it.

How to store:

If you are not going to consume your chocolate gravy immediately or have leftovers or just want to make some time in advance then you can keep in an airtight container.

Just place in the pan on the stove to heat it until it melts slightly and becomes smooth and hot.

You can also freeze this recipe. Let the recipe cool down completely and put it in an airtight container and keep it in the freezer, it should last for about 4 months.

If you feel that the chocolate gravy is a bit thin to your liking, then add a little cornstarch water and whiskey to the gravy.

I start with 1 table of cornstarch and 1 tbs of water and go from there until you reach your desired thickness.

We usually do not thicken, as it will thicken slightly as it cools, but this is an option if you want a thick gravy

Tips and tricks:
We like to use unsweetened cocoa powder, but you can use the Dutch process.
It can be frozen, please see my notes above on how to do this.
It can be served in a variety of delicious desserts or eaten with just a spoon (it may be just for me).
It is best served hot, it will thicken as it cools.

  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, thick

Instruction of Chocolate Gravy Recipe-

Phase 1
Squeeze the cocoa, sugar, flour and salt in a large pan, preferably a cast iron braid. Mix the milk in a slow, steady stream, until smooth.

Phase 2
Cook it over medium heat, wooden spoon until the gravy thickens to the consistency of thin pudding, about 8 to 10 minutes. The gravy will thicken on the side first, so keep stirring it down and to the side.

step 3
Remove the pan from the butter and drop into the butter. Stir until melted and smooth. Serve hot gravy with biscuits.

Step 1: Whisk cocoa with milk
Sugar, cocoa powder, and milk are the major components of this delicious sauce, and before they can be anything, they must be thoroughly mixed in a large heavy saucepan. Like a savory gravy, no one likes lumps.

Step 2: Bring to a boil
Because milk is included, you cannot fire the burner and it is easy (and messy) to let the milk mixture boil. Set the burner on medium heat and stir continuously for 7-10 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to a gravy-like consistency. If you like your skinny, that’s fine. Just stop for a while.

Step 3: Finish Gravy
Butter gives extra richness to gravy and vanilla helps to balance that strong chocolate flavor. After removing the pot from the heat, shake your butter and vanilla into the mixture until the butter is completely melted and incorporated.

Step 4: Treat!

3 tablespoons own flour
2 tablespoons cocoa powder

4 1/2 cups whole milk

Cocoa Butter – 1 cup
Sugar (powder) – 1 cup
Cocoa (Powder) – 1 cup
Milk (Powder) – 1 cup
Vanilla Essence – 1 teaspoon

Chocolate Recipe: –

First of all, place the water in a big pot for heating.

After the water is hot, place a big bowl over it and put cocoa butter in it.

Now mix sugar, cocoa powder and milk powder in cocoa butter.

Add banilla essence to it and mix it well.

You will see that it will melt lightly but you will keep stirring it continuously,

Then it will become smooth and silky.

Now fill this mixture in the chocolate mold of silicone as you like.
